Malta

st julians, malta

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I recently went to Malta for a little vacay! If you’re thinking, Malta, what a random destination, I did think so too at first, but trust me the country is beautiful and well worth visiting. We took the opportunity of the 30 degrees heat and spent most of our days relaxing by the pool and doing a bit of sightseeing. Oh and we happened to catch the Isle of MTV concert while we were there…ok I confess the concert was 50% the reason we went. A free MTV rave on holiday? Why the hell not?! We also went to the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra concert, which had incredible atmosphere as you could hear the orchestra in cafes and restaurants throughout the town. This was also free…how amazing is Malta?!

Malta is a very small island and it doesn’t take long to get to the different cities if you are staying at a resort elsewhere. We stayed in St Julians and spent one day exploring Mdina and the capital of the island, Valetta.

Mdina is a medieval walled town, built as a fort to protect Valetta. It is known as the ‘Silent City’, as the quaint streets are full of culture and history.

Mdina is definitely worth visiting to have a little wonder around and if you get a bit peckish, stop at the Fontanella Tea Rooms, to sample their infamous cakes and admire the stunning view.

Valetta is also lovely and is very typically “European” in my opinion with narrow, cobbled streets and cute cafés everywhere.valetta DSC_0376The view from the Upper Barrakka Gardens.DSC_0403DSC_0399DSC_0451DSC_0453

It’s official, after writing this post I am suffering from the worst post holiday blues ever. I have decided that this is a real, clinical thing and the only think to cure it is to book another holiday ASAP!
